Don't worry if starting a beginner
triathlete training program sounds like biting
off the so called "more than you can chew." It is
inevitable that an individual will have some trepidation
when starting any new type of exercise or training
progam. Training for a triathlon is no different. So how
do we get over the fear of being a beginner
triathlete?
Getting Started:
The first step is knowing that nobody
becomes a triathlete in a single day. A beginner triathlete
will have to build on his or her fitness level over time,
especially if one has been spending too much time on the couch.
With all certainty though, following a good course of beginner
triathlete training will help you accomplish your goals. So,
where to begin?
Disclaimer: Everybody says check with your
doctor first before you start any new type of exercise program.
That is actually a pretty good idea. Your doctor will be able
to inform you of any pre-existing conditions that might inhibit
your training. This is important since a beginner triathlete is
going to be experiencing a lot of different motions and
exercises that the body is not accustomed to performing. The
three main triathlon sports include swimming, cycling and
running will be your focus but getting a base level of fitness
should be your first concern.
Stepping It Up:
Once you have built that base level of
fitness, it is time to step up your beginner triathlete
training. Running is the easiest to start with since you just
need a pair of running shoes. Biking will likely come next
since most people already know how to ride a bike. Getting
started swimming may be more difficult depending on where you
are located. Find a local gym that has a pool if there is no
lake nearby or it is just too cold outside to swim.
Keeping Motivated:
Getting off the couch and starting a
beginner triathlete training program may feel intimidating.
Don't be worried about it. Remember, every journey starts with
a single step. Following a good course of triathlon training is
the best first step. So take that first step, and you will
leave your couch wondering where you went!
